September Recap

Life Events:

September 14 and 20: Dance Concert Auditions

This year I auditioned to be a part of CNU's Dance Concert again! The first audition was for student choreographers. Unfortunately, my piece was not selected due to too many seniors auditioning, but I am still going to stage my piece for a different project. More on that later!

Next up were the auditions to dance in the Dance Concert. I was #7 (my lucky number!) and had so much fun! I got two callbacks, which were held the next day. I am happy to announce that I have been cast in three pieces!! This is the maximum a dancer can be cast in per the department's rules. I can't wait to begin rehearsals!!

My Classes:

A little summary of what I've been learning in my classes!

Statistics for Social Research:

This is a bit complicated to explain, but we are continuing to review what we all learned in Elementary Statistics. We also had our first test this month, I got a 92!

German 200:

So far, we have just been doing a review of all the topics we learned in the first two semesters of German. Right now, we are reviewing prepositions and the different cases.

Refugees and Migrant Displacement:

This class has been a mix of reading and discussing our text as well as lectures. So far, we have learned about how anthropology and refugees relate, an overview of refugee history, and an overview refugee and migrant policy.

Popular Genres:

We have completed our unit on con artists, with focuses on Frank Abagnale and Anna Sorokin (I find her so fascinating!), and are moving onto our unit on detectives. We will be reading some Sherlock Holmes. We also have our first paper due soon. We are finding a scholarly article about crime fiction. My paper is focused on the theme of gender in television detective pairings.

Dance Studies:

This class has been a lot of fun! In addition to our readings and discussions, we also have had three dance classes to help us better understand the various styles. We have had an Afro-Carribean class, ballet class, and a salsa class. I gave an oral presentation on one of our articles on ballet and I actually got to teach the ballet class and it went very well!
